A big gap on your resume of several months to a year is a massive red flag to employers, even if you have a valid reason for taking that time off. More often than not, you’ll have a good reason to avoid employment for a while, whether it’s to look after your family or travel Europe.
How do I get a job after long gap without experience?
Assess your situation- take some time to think about what you want and what you’re looking for in a new role. What are your goals? What are your skills? What are your strengths?
2. Update your CV- include your career break on your CV. Be honest about why you took a break and highlight what you did during that time.
3. Network- reach out to your network of contacts and let them know you’re looking for a new role. Attend industry events and job fairs.
4. Be prepared for your interview- practice your interviewing skills and be prepared to talk about your career break.
5. Look for career returner programs- many companies offer programs specifically for career returners.
6. Be confident- remember that you have a lot to offer and be confident in your abilities.
Do employers care about gaps in resume?
Employment gaps can reflect poorly on an applicant. To a recruiter, they may suggest someone who doesn’t stay in a job for a long time and simply quits without reason. Gaps may indicate that someone has been let go from their position.
How long is too long of an unemployment gap?
As long as you can demonstrate you have the skills and qualifications needed for a job, no employment gap is so long it makes you unemployable. However, a study performed in Sweden found that searching for work after an employment gap of nine months or longer may negatively impact your chances of finding employment.
Why have you been unemployed for so long?
Freshers or professionals can be unemployed for long periods of time for various reasons. They may have taken some time off to take care of their family or personal life situations. Freshers may take such breaks to focus on learning new skills or getting new degrees which they may be lacking from the job market’s perspective.
