Job boards may not have the best security measures in place to protect your CV.
Once an employer or recruiter has downloaded your CV, you have no control over where it will end up.
Your CV could be viewed by anyone who comes across it online, including people who are not interested in hiring you.
If you post your CV on a public job board, employers may assume that you are not serious about finding a job.
You may miss out on opportunities if you only post your CV online and do not network with potential employers in person.
Which type of CV is best?
In the vast majority of cases, we recommend using a reverse-chronological resume format. In 2022, this is by far the most common and useful format: applicant tracking systems can read it without any problems, and all recruiters and hiring managers are familiar with it.
How do I make my first CV online?
Pick the right layout: When you’re creating a resume for your first job, it’s important to choose a layout that is easy to read and highlights your relevant experiences. If you’re not sure what format to use, try looking at resume examples online for inspiration.
Match your experiences to the job listing: One of the most important aspects of creating a resume is making sure that your skills and experiences match those required for the job you’re applying for. Take some time to review the job listing and identify key keywords related to the role. Then, include these keywords in your resume where relevant.
Focus on your education: Many employers require applicants to have at least a high school diploma or equivalent. If you don’t have much work experience, focus on highlighting your educational accomplishments in your resume. Include information such as the name of your school, dates of attendance, and any relevant coursework or scholarships received.
Highlight volunteer work and extracurricular activities: If you haven’t had much paid work experience, that’s okay! You can still showcase your skills by highlighting any volunteer work or extracurricular activities in which you’ve participated. These can be excellent ways to demonstrate college leadership roles as well as teamwork skills gained from playing sports, being part of a club, or working on group projects.
List your technical and human skills: In addition to showcasing your relevant skillset in your work experience section, it can also be helpful to create a dedicated section for listing any technical skills or human skills you possess. This is especially useful if you’re applying for a position that requires specific software knowledge or soft skills such as customer service or communication abilities.
